On a project up in Thief River Falls, MN. That's about 75 miles or so from the Canadian border. Was "forutnate" enough to get to go there in the dead of winter. I don't remember the exact date of this video, but I imagine its around Feburary of 2004. Stayed at the Best Western Hotel, which is ironic because there was nothing "best" about it....but at least it had heat. I had some interesting experiences up there in the great frozen tundra of Thief River Falls, one of the minor events was discovering that a hot cup of coffee can flash freeze at minus 30 degrees, which is the topic of this video. But pause the video when you get a good look at the so called "Best" Western hotel; and imagine scaling the outside of the building from ground level to the second floor window to gain access to your hotel room under, lets just say "precarious conditions" at an odd hour of the morning. Half way up to the objective, you loose your grip and fall onto the heating unit of the room directly under your room and then bounce onto the thick sheet of ice below. That hurts because I know first hand. That is the "major" experience I had at this venue, but is a completely different experience and there is no video record of that event. Thank god. But it is a good story!
